Thermo Scientific Gemini Chemical Identification Analyzer with LowDoseID

The tough, portable Thermo ScientificTM GeminiTM Chemical Identification Analyzer supports operators in carrying out their missions in a timely, safe, and accurate manner by meeting the exacting standards of elite military and public safety organizations.

The Gemini Chemical Identification Analyzer is the only handheld device in the world that combines Raman and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopies into a single device. These two complementary spectroscopies improve a user's capacity to detect unfamiliar compounds in the field.

Because of the graphical interface, proficiency requires very little training. Even with protective gloves, operators may quickly browse functions using the resistive touch screen or the tactile keypad. The Gemini Chemical Identification Analyzer has been certified to meet the most recent military standards for ruggedness, including drop, shock, vibration, temperature, immersion, and much more. This certification covers harsh climates and severe handling.

The following awards have been given to the Gemini Chemical Identification Analyzer:

  • Gold Medal at the 2016 Edison Awards for Excellence in Human-Centered Design and Innovation in the Forensics and Security category
  • Winner of the Editor’s Choice Award in the Analytical Test category at the 2015 R&D 100 awards, recognizing outstanding innovations across various industries.
  • Pharmaceutical Manufacturing All-Star Innovators Award in "Analytical and Monitoring Devices" Category
  • Bronze Innovation Award at Europoltech in the Supermodern 2015 Program
  • "Highly Commended" recognition as part of the ADS Security Innovation Awards 2015 at the Security and Policing Conference in the UK

Three Technologies in One

Complementary and Confirmatory

FTIR and Raman are extremely dependable and specific identification techniques, but they have advantages and disadvantages. By combining the two into a single analyzer, operators can leverage the capabilities of each technology and provide a wider spectrum of chemical identification.

The Scan Assist feature uses a series of simple questions to help new users choose technology. The same interface and workflow across platforms guarantee that operators with experience can easily carry out sampling.

SERS - Low Concentration Analysis

Gemini with LowDose ID may provide low concentration analysis and results for important drugs by combining SERS (Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy) with the analyzer's improved hardware and software.

Raman FTIR SERS
  • Aqueous solutions
  • Point-and-shoot through semi-translucent containers
  • Colored samples
  • Fluorescent samples
  • Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy
  • Low concentration analysis

LowDoseID for the Detection of Low-Concentration Illicit Drugs

With SERS H-Kit and Screener algorithm improvements, the Gemini Chemical Identification Analyzer with LowDoseID offers enhanced drug detection capabilities. Drugs in mixtures and pills can be detected at low concentrations, thanks to these new device capabilities.

ID Mode

  • Provides complementary and confirmatory results using both FTIR and Raman technology
  • Ideal for advanced users
  • A general characterization of substances
  • HazMasterG3 Software (capable of being added on)
  • Find any potentially dangerous materials being manufactured with chemicals on the premises
  • Find out which ingredients are missing from the HME formula

Screener Mode (Available with LowDoseID)

  • Makes use of SERS and Raman
  • Perfect for every user-level
  • Identification of narcotics
  • Direct Scan: Examination of materials that are pure or highly concentrated using a holder or probe
  • Type H Scan: Materials with low concentrations and objects with fluorescence problems

Scan Delay

Gemini offers the first FTIR scan delay in the industry, made possible by the motorized anvil. In addition, it offers the Raman scan delay, adjustable laser power, and other integrated safety measures.

HazMasterG3 Chemical Identification Software

Handheld chemical detection equipment now incorporates Alluviam LLC's sophisticated HazMasterG3 decision support tool. In addition to providing situational awareness of potential threats related to a chemical cache, radiation readings, or an unidentified piece of ordnance, the system offers crucial chemical insights to aid in interpreting the analyzer's results.

The user-friendly software provides answers to practical, on-site queries, allowing investigators to respond more meaningfully. The interactive system can assist in identifying precursors and component substances, as well as what chemical components are likely being used to formulate, how much could be made, what components are lacking, what could be utilized to synthesize missing elements, and other information.

This software is the sole CBRNE/HME/IED support software with certification from the US Department of Homeland Security for its status as an approved anti-terrorism technology.
